ONE OF THE LEADING NAMES IN THE GLOBAL AMBIENT SCENE

For the first time in Spain, OFFF Sevilla welcomes Chihei Hatakeyama — one of the most prominent figures in the global ambient and experimental music scene.

Chihei Hatakeyama (Japan) is a musician, sound artist, and founder of a record label. Living on the outskirts of Tokyo, he has performed for years under his own name and as part of the electroacoustic duo Opitope, alongside Tomoyoshi Date.

His career began with Minima Moralia, a minimalist project created with limited resources: guitar, vibraphone, and laptop. Since 2010, he has expanded his practice by incorporating synthesizers, effects, and modular systems, shaping more organic and textured soundscapes.

Inspired by spiritual jazz and the philosophy of sound, Hatakeyama sees improvisation as a form of composition and embraces error as an essential part of the creative process.

His music — reflecting the calm and imagery of the coastal landscape where he grew up — blends contemplation, technique, and a deeply personal sensitivity.
