Montreal · Art direction, film direction and branding
THE WORD FOR WORK IS ‘PLAY’
"When did we stop believing in magic?" Katy Perry asks in "Daisies." Paradoxically, in the music video for the same song, it's the artists of Vallée Duhamel who take us by the hand and lead us into an illustrated world of poetry in motion, a video that was ranked among the top 10 music videos by Creative Reviews.
Magic is real for this creative duo from Montreal, composed of Julen Vallée and Eva Duhamel, and perhaps that's why they can uniquely blend surprising and intricate narratives, art direction, design, and hand-manipulated objects with production techniques. Each of their creations is
built from play and experimentation, allowing the mind to make connections where logic could not. Their distinctive style, reminiscent of the early days of cinema, with a high-quality lo-fi aesthetic, has attracted numerous brands to join their game: Apple, Google, Hermès, and Samsung, to name a few.Even at UQAM, they have a great time with these French-Canadian artists and their course on design and experimentation.
At what point in our lives do adults forget to play? Vallée Duhamel never did, and they are ready to reveal the rules of their unique way of playing.
