THE TROUBADOURS OF THE FUTURE: WHEN CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY PERFORMS WITH CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Is it possible to synthesize light and sound from our movements and interact with the resulting presences as if they were dance partners? Instituto Stocos makes this and much more a reality through their custom software development, interactive movement sonification, and artificial intelligence. It's a perfect symbiosis between contemporary dance and cutting-edge technology, where they expand bodily energy into other sensory modalities. Works like Acusmatrix, Neural Narratives, or Piano & Dancer, among many others, have been featured in numerous national and international festivals and theaters.
The company, founded and directed by Muriel Romero and Pablo Palacio, places fundamental importance on research in areas such as AI, biology, mathematics, and experimental psychology, applying their findings to the development of their technologies. An example of this is their collaboration "Motion Composer," an intelligence system geared towards the interaction between the body and sound for people with disabilities. Their innovations in the world of dance have captured worldwide attention, and they have participated in various European projects with works like Metabody, both within the Horizon program and the EU's cultural program.
Instituto Stocos has not only taken the stage to express themselves through their bodies but has also done so with words, presenting at various universities and conservatories such as UAH, Birmingham Conservatoire, and Missouri State University.
