Designing Possible Futures | Speculative Designer & Obsessive Digital Observer
Joel Blanco is a creator, artist, and researcher working at the intersection of art, philosophy, and speculative design. A self-described inactive member of the Pokémon generation and expert in junk food, he uses objects as catalysts to question contemporary consumer culture. Educated at IED Madrid and the prestigious Design Academy Eindhoven, his work has been featured on international platforms such as the MAYRIT Biennial. Known for iconoclastic projects like Messless and Tecno-Trash, he has established himself as one of the most satirical and insightful voices in contemporary design.
Biography & Career
Navigating conceptual design, creative direction, strategic consultancy, and curating, Joel Blanco views design not as the production of functional objects, but as a framework for sparking uncomfortable questions and unpacking the absurdities of the digital age.
His early background in cinematic storytelling shaped a narrative methodology that he later transitioned into physical form and artistic installation. Through a practice that defies the conventions of industrial design, his work interrogates ideas of order, e-waste, and the construction of plausible futures. Spanning conceptual furniture to speculative research, Blanco continues to expand his reach as a cultural provocator, centering his work on dark humor, philosophy, and sharp social commentary.
